About me

Tattoo artist in Valencia. Traditional and neo-traditional, mostly in black and grey.

Augusto Cabrera in his booth, Furtivo Tattoo

My name is Augusto Cabrera and I tattoo at Furtivo Tattoo, in Valencia.

Most of what I do is traditional and neo-traditional in black and grey. I am drawn to the timeless repertoire — horses, tigers, panthers, snakes, eagles, skulls, flowers, women — and to Japanese work: hannya masks, dragons, koi, cranes. I work with firm linework and soft shading, aiming for a piece that still reads well twenty years from now, not just on the day it leaves the booth.

I also tattoo in colour when the design calls for it, but that is not the norm: most of what you will see in the archive is resolved in black and grey.

How I work

Write to me with the body area, the size and the idea, and I will propose a drawing from there. I do not copy another tattooer’s work: if you bring me a reference, I use it as a starting point to make something of your own. I would rather do a few pieces properly than many of them half-way.

The flash

What I do not tattoo, I paint. The colour flash sheets on paper — in the classic palette of the trade: red, ochre, muted green — are as much a part of the craft as the machine. Some are framed in the studio and others are for sale.
